Melbourne City (Eat.PLay.Shop)

Day 7 - Breakfast @ The Hardware Societe Melbourne - Queen Victoria Market (QVM) - Lunch @ Shanghai Street Dumpling & Mini Juicy Bun - Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne - Shrine of Remembrance - National Gallery of Victoria - Arts Centre Melbourne - Federation Square - Dinner @ Red Rooster

Our winter jackets were too bulky for us
So we decided to just dress up light (uniqlo jacket and a scarf)
We took a tram and walk to Hardware Societe few streets down

Hardware Societe
120 Hardware St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia

Mon to Fri: 7.30am – 3pm
Sat & Sun: 8.30am – 2pm
Nearest Tram Station: Queen Street/La Trobe Street

Our airbnb host recommended this place to us
It is extremely popular among both locals and visitors
It was breakfast for us on one breezy morning
We endured a wait of about fifteen minutes before we were seated indoor
We were lucky as we arrived early
According to my Australian friends,
Breakfast is a huge deal to them Australians
We were truly spoilt for choice with its relatively large menu
Everybody loves latte art
chorizo sausage, piquillo pimientos sauce, crunchy almonds, goats milk cheese

They are famous for Baked Eggs (AUD$19), available in either a vegetarian roasted pumpkin or chorizo sausage version. We took the latter one.

Personally I am not a fan of baked eggs as I am a fussy eater. I don't take almonds at all so having this meal is a torture for me.
QVM
Fresh poultry being displayed and they looked appetizing
Plenty catch from the sea
This is the food section
People were so friendly that they greeted you "Good morning!" when you stroll down the alley
Outdoor section selling vegetables and fruits

Vic Market is a great place for shopping for a range of goods for residents
For tourists, there were nothing much to shop
We did buy some souvenirs and nougats from local stalls
Had a bargain buy and a chat with a local
There were street performers early in the morning, good food and drinks

Xiao Long Bao menu
Xiao Long Bao are steamed pork dumplings that have soup combined into the pork filling
to be consume with a bowl with a decent pool of vinegar and shreded ginger or chilli oil

It is cheap and good but the skin of the dumplings are on the thicker side
Some of them are tad dry (not very soupy) though
The handmade noodles had been finger stretched to heavenly proportions and cooked to the softest version of themselves
Shanghai Street Dumpling does a lot of things well
Consistency, value, freshness and the picture tells it all!

I love their entrance with that matte semi transparent glass door
It was drizzling so we decided to stay indoor and explore the area

Federation Square
Swanston St & Flinders St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia
Located directly opposite Flinders Street Train Station and St Paul’s Cathedral

Amazing place to visit in Melbourne with festivals, buskers, big screens, art galleries and free events. When we were there it was relatively empty.

Locals said you get free Wi-Fi, free daily health and wellness classes, rooftop honey bees and gardens, restaurants and bars that have deals, and free sports on the big tv screen. Unfortunately, there were nothing when we get there except high class restaurants and bars.
It was just an open square with a bunch of elaborately designed, albeit attractive
and interesting, buildings surrounding it.
Night view of the Arts Centre Melbourne

Red Rooster at Southern Cross Station
They have many outlets across Melbourne City
We thought it was okay to have some fast food for dinner
It turned out better than nandos in Singapore and Malaysia
They have a wide variety of selections and I had to praise their chickens
It was the best and valuable fast food I've ever taken so far.
Take ma money pls!

An instagrammable restaurant with ~130 seats across three levels,
16 chefs to make delicious brunch, lunch and dinner
With waiters are dressed smartly in uniformed shirts
They are known for their avocado on toast and gorgeous Ricotta Hotcakes
But I was not keen on both so we ordered something else
I like their brunch menu but everything seemed upsized
I couldn't finish them all alone and often I need to share my meals
I liked it, but do I want to have it again? Maybe, maybe not.
Then we take a train out of CBD area towards Essendon
Wanted to shop at their DFO and it was pretty out of the way
It was clean and quiet inside the cabin and I was pretty happy
We shopped for nearly 3 hours then we came back to Southern Cross Station
And my friends, Jolin and Danny met us at St. Kilda for a dinner
Dinner @ Veludo Bar Restaurant
We had fine dining and good food from Melbourne
St Kilda pier (handheld camera)
St Kilda pier (handheld camera)

Thanks to both friends for driving us around to Melbourne West Bridge!

Day 9 - Breakfast @ Hash Specialty Coffee & Roaster - Harbour Town - DFO South Wharf - Chadstone Shopping Centre - Dinner @ Bay City Burrito Hawthorn - Crown Casino Melbourne - Supper @ Pie Face

So, this is winter in Melbourne
Temperature hitting below 10 degree Celcius
We passed by Melbourne's state library
I requested it to be captured this way (=
And there's this thing that caught my eyes
Guess what is this thing?
A public toilet smack right in the middle of the street

                           Saturday (8am - 5pm)

A place with nice interior and overall good atmosphere
Located just opposite the Hardware Societe
Decent meal and we didnt have to wait to get to our table
Staffs took pride in their work and quick service
We had their famous latte with art (=
I ordered pulled pork benedicts which is good for breakfast
And here are the baked eggs
Next we moved to Harbour Town to take a look at their ferris wheels
I guessed it was bigger than our own Singapore Flyer
Im so much smaller compared to the wheels
Next was the DFO South Wharf
We travelled on their free trams and shopped for couple of hours
To be honest, the food inside the DFO itself sucks
Please do not dine inside the DFO
Some street arts by some unknown artists working meticulously on

Chadstone Shopping Centre
1341 Dandenong Rd, Chadstone VIC 3148, Australia
It is a super regional shopping centre located in the south-eastern suburb of Malvern East, Victoria in the city of Melbourne with the interior design similar with our very own Marina Bay Sands.
What amazed us was the fact that the glass above us are made of a single piece of glass

Bay City Burrito Hawthorn

                           Friday and Saturday (12pm - 9:30pm)

We found this gem as our local friends strongly recommended this shop
And truly it was an authentic burrito experience and we enjoyed it a lot
Trying our luck at their casino and we walked away with AUD20 each
Bought supper at PieFace located at Southern Cross Station before calling it a day
Before heading back to Singapore the next morning
We had Hungry Jack's at Southern Cross Station
And took the Skybus back to Tullamarine airport

That conclude our Melbourne trip
My first out of Asia trip and furthest down south
Next we shall visit our neighbour country, Medan! See you there!
